Put your health first – oral health affects overall health
The research has been in for quite a long time. Oral health can have a tremendous effect on health.
We are champions of preventative dental care to head off problems before they take root. (Sorry for the bad dental pun!)
To state the obvious, losing a tooth in adulthood can affect nutrition. As can dental pain while eating. Even capped front teeth can make it more difficult to eat foods such as apples or corn on the cob.
Research has linked cardiovascular disease – the top killer of men – with poor oral health.
Many men, as well as women don’t know they have osteoporosis either, and it too has been linked with gum disease. In fact, gum disease, has also been associated with other systemic diseases.
Gum disease has also been linked with diabetes, and about one third of men with diabetes don’t know they even have it.
Many people are becoming more aware of their appearance and of cosmetic dentistry, but many neglect their oral health.
Why People Neglect Oral Health & How We Can Help
- They are nervous. We strive to make sure our patients are as comfortable and well cared for as we possibly can. Please see our Testimonials or Google Reviews. Also, dentistry has come a long way, even in the last decade or so. While we do see middle aged patients that may have had painful treatments in years past, modern dentistry is much less uncomfortable.
- They have no time. We understand this. With competing priorities in life, it gets really busy. Some of our patients find that booking at least six months in advance can help them make sure they build their calendar around the appointment somewhat to not overbook themselves. Also, sometimes bringing the kids in for a dental cleaning at the same time can work well to minimize trips to the dentist. We are open Saturdays, and work until 7pm on Thursdays, if that will help you with scheduling. Again, we realize how busy life can be and will patiently work with you to find a time and date that you can manage.
- They don’t have a regular dentist. Great news! We are accepting new patients and have great Reviews on Google. At writing, we currently have a rating of 4.8 out of 5 stars on Google.
- They don’t see the need. Regular dental check-ups can prevent or minimize expensive and/or “larger” dental problems and treatments later on. It really is worth it, and important.
Interestingly, studies show that women are much more likely to visit the doctor for annual examinations and preventive services than men. We are always happy to discuss any hesitations patients of any gender may have. We are known by our current patients to be caring, kind and to take the time with individuals as is needed to assist them. Please call us to discuss or to book an appointment for a check up or cleaning.
Try us out and see for yourself. You might find that after the initial appointment, (if you like us!) that it’s pretty easy to get in a regular routine of checkups by booking your next appointment at the end of your current one.
In our opinion, every month should be “Dental Health Month”. Oral health really can affect your overall health.
